We are two artists who met in graduate school at Saint Cloud State University, and became best friends almost immediately. We've traveled together, seen each other get married and have kids, and been through many ups and downs.
We are both working wives and moms in different industries, so our artwork is a labor of love down in the art cave getaway of Noureen's basement. Each of us does this for different reasons and is inspired by different things, but ultimately we both love hanging out and being creative - often with a good Disney movie or soundtrack on in the background!
I remember as a kid when people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would always say "an artist or a dancer." And I am definitely not equipped to be a dancer...
I grew up in Marshalltown, Iowa, and studied art studio with a painting emphasis at the University of Northern Iowa. I've always been interested in realism and painting portraits ever since I was a kid when I met an exchange student who was working on a pencil portrait; I remember thinking, "I want to be able to do that."
As I grow older, I am most curious about abstract realism, playing with collage and mixed media to get to a resemblance of my subjects. And it wasn't until 2021 that I began making mosaic tables, one of which I decided to cover with clear epoxy to seal in the sharp glass edges. With the leftover epoxy, I decided to try out epoxy resin on canvas to make some decor for my office, and I discovered the abstract art medium that I now love: epoxy resin.
By day I work in a nonprofit organization in Saint Paul, Minnesota, to advance anti-racism and economic and social justice, and am a mama of one toddler with my incredible husband. My nights and weekends consist of spending time or traveling with family, playing park & rec volleyball, or hanging in the art cave making art with one of my bestie bests: Noureen.
A stationery addict who doubles as an engineer Mon to Fri :) amongst the many endearing titles which I have received, my most favorite one is "mommy" <3 When I have the time, I like to take a pen to paper and pour my heart out. The end result can be considered art, calligraphy or just words. What makes me happy is that it is considered. Which is why I share my journal and creations when I can.
More recently, I discovered the art of poured paintings through my best friend Angie's ventures. I love the unstructured enigma that comes with every output. This art form has truly lent itself to helping me realize the reality of "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder".
I hope your eyes can discover whatever it is that brings tranquility to the game of life which we are all trying to play.
